Why can't I claim the grant when I prepay my taxes?

Answers:

Under the Home Owner Grant Act, you are required to claim your grant after you receive your property tax notice. The notices are sent out at the end of May or beginning of June. If you are going to be away at this time of year, you can sign the grant application in advance, but the grant will not be processed until after the property tax notices have been mailed. The property must not be for sale or rented out in order for you to qualify for the grant.
