All property owners in the province are required to pay school taxes, unless the property is used for an exempt purpose and is exempt from taxation. While the tax is not based on the property owner's use of the school system, school taxes are felt to be a suitable way to pay for part of our public education costs given that we all benefit from a good school system. |

Each property in British Columbia subject to property taxation is taxed to support the public education system. School taxes are billed against the property, not the owner's use of the public school system. If you own one or more properties, you are subject to school property tax on each property.
